Abstract

This study investigates the media strategies employed by the Persian-language satellite network Iran International during the escalation phase of the 2022 unrests in Iran. At this critical stage, the media shifted from mere coverage to active participation in intensifying the crisis. By normalizing violence, amplifying emotional narratives, promoting collapse scenarios, and glorifying unrest leaders, the network aimed to radicalize public opinion and turn civil protests into violent confrontation.Using a qualitative content analysis method and MaxQDA software, 88 episodes of the “Cheshmandaz” program aired between September and December 2022 were examined. The findings show that techniques such as
violence normalization, revenge-driven incitement, state collapse projection, and symbolic hero-making were systematically utilized to erode national cohesion and psychological security. This paper evaluates these tactics within the framework of cognitive warfare and media psychology and offers policy recommendations for countering violent media operations during high-risk crises.
